In A League Of Their Own
The Heywood family have published a new book about Todmorden Cricket Club entitled 'In a league of their own: Cricket and Leisure in 20th Century Todmorden. '
This
book attempts to update the Todmorden cricket scene and to examine how
Todmorden people chose to spend their leisure-time in the 20th Century.
It looks at participation in many thriving activities of the
time: football, knur and spell, music, drama, swimming, pigeons hooting
etc.
The bbok is split into 3 parts:
Part 1 covers Todmorden CC from 1897 to 1938, ending with the league play-off final against Haslingden.
Part 2 explores the local District Cricket League and provides an insight into other activities in Todmorden.
Part 3 tells the cricket story from 1939 to 2000, whilst the final chapter updates the cricket and the local leisure scene.
